W11 gt4-z to fwd manual conversion?
« on: 03 November, 2021, 02:45:55 PM »
I'm looking at potentially buying a w11 avenir gt4-z with 4wd auto trans and sr20det engine

If I got it I would be wanting to convert it to fwd manual

From my reading it is tricky to convert to 4wd manual as the crossmember would foul the shifter linkages, thus needing the crossmember to be modified

The only manual w11's are qg18de

Excuse my ignorance, but what are the differences in terms of layout /fitment between 4wd and fwd gearboxes? Are the shifter linkages on a fwd sr20de gearbox in a different location that would likely clear the w11 crossmember?

Is the crossmember from a sr20de auto w11 the same as a sr20det w11?

Well, there's a manual qg18de W11 avenir at the local pick a part
The transmission code is rs5f70a

According to the last post on this thread:
https://www.sr20forum.com/threads/rs5f70-gearbox-question.174852/
The bellhousing off a manual sr20de B15 will fit the rs5f70a box

So that could be an option but has anyone done that here? Is it an option that would work? Or is there something I'm missing?

OK it seems the problem is there are no cars in NZ with an SR20 mated to an RS5F70A box, so no car available in nz to get the bellhousing from. Looks like it only came in some usdm P11's and B15's.

We do have manual nzdm P11's up to 2002, but (correct me if I'm wrong) they have RS5F32A transmissions unlike their USDM counterparts.

That puts a stop to that project, was hoping it would be an easy conversion using factory OEM parts from pick a part or the like

Why not use the 51A from the P12? Cable shifter rather than rods.
