Topic: sentra 1997 1.5 vs pulsar 1.6 1999 fuel economy

Hi
I'm new to the forum.
I own a Sentra 1.5 1997 and recently bought a Pulsar 1.6 1999 to upgrade to have A/C
I looked on car jam and it lists the Sentra to be cheaper to run than the Pulsar.
Although the sentra is 200kg heavier and 9kw less power
Any one know which is more fuel efficient?

Its possibly just the loaded weight of the car, rather than the actual weight. Both will be around the 1100kg mark empty.

Both engines are fuel injected. The GA15DE has the potential to be more economical, as they have taller gearing than the 1600 version (assuming both manual), if they are both auto then Id expect the GA16 to be more economical all things remaining equal. The Blacktop GA16DE engine is quite a good one. Which one is more economical for you will come down to your usage, and the condition of each of the cars.

Both are manuals and the sentra has 145kms and the pulsar has 174kms
I can definitely feel the difference in power with the pulsar getting up the gears with more ease ( I usually drive for economy anyway)
Just out of interest what does taller gearing mean?
Car Jam listed the difference in fuel consumption
Pulsar 1999  9.06 Lt for 100kms, total for 14000ks = $2862 Gross vehicle mass 1072kg
Sentra 1997 8.01 Lt for 100kms, total for 14000ks = $2530  Gross vehicle mass 1285kg
I think the figures seem a little bit high, compared to reality?
Anyway thanks for your thoughts, Ill fill the tank up and see how it compares full to empty with same driving

the GA15 engine was fitted with a 3.8:1 final drive, and the GA16 engine got a 4.1:1 final drive, this essentially means that the 1600 will be revving a little higher than the 1500. Im not sure why they did this but was likely to make the 1600 a bit faster than it would have been otherwise. In reality it won't make stuff all difference in economy as they are both economical engines.

I had an earlier model GA16 and around town it would average around 8.5L/100km, and on the open road would be under 7L/100km. I have no reason to see why the later model one wouldn't be an improvement on this.

In the end, the difference is negligible anyway.
