NZPPCC Member of the Month

Pete has been a member for the past few years and has one of the best Lucino's around and was overdue a feature, here is his story

NZPPCC: When and why did you first get your Primera / Pulsar?

Pete : I bought the Lucino late October early November in 2010. I was looking for a new car and wanted something reliable that I could start tinkering with.

NZPPCC:  And what were your original plans for your car and how have they changed?

Pete : Originally was just going to service it and drive it daily but after seeing modified B14's in the states on sr20-forum I started looking at parts and what I could do. Eventually found my way the primera forum and saw what guys were doing here with sr20s and my interest grew. Sort of snowballed from there with parts landing monthly and the car spending a good amount of time off the road being worked on. The cars mainly used as a weekend car now with the hope to see some track time.

NZPPCC:  What performance modifications have you made to your car?

Pete : Needless to say a fair few!

Engine/Mechanical/Suspension
Autech Sr20de engine
Autech LSD gearbox
ECU with daughterboard and tune
B&M short shifter
Custom alloy 3inch intake piping, Rb20det green sticker MAF, custom alloy cold air box with Apexi pod filter, ducting from front bumper
2.5inch complete exhaust comprising of Coby extractors, 22inch long Magnaflow resonator, Magnaflow muffler
Walbro fuel pump, Tomei fuel pressure reg
Unorthodox Racing 2 piece pulley kit
Oil filter relocation kit
Sr20ve valve cover - to get rid of the charcoal canister!
Engine bay re ground kit
Battery relocated to the boot
Whiteline rear swaybar
Factory front strut brace
Aftermarket rear strut brace.
15x6.5 Work Esperio alloys (also got 15x7 Advanti m390)
15mm spacers in the front, 25mm spacers in the rear
Custom MRP coilovers, 8kg swift racing springs all round, valved accordingly
QT adjustable link for the rear beam alignment
Energy Suspension polyurethane front and rear control arm bushings
Crown performance braided brake lines
Slotted front brake rotors with ad22vf calipers znoelli sp500 pads

NZPPCC: What mods have you made to the exterior/interior?

Pete : A fair bit again,

Autech body kit
Autech white faced dash with led cool white back lights
Pinstripe removed
B&M shifter knob
Momo pedals
Momo steering wheel
3x Prosport stepper motor gauges (oil temp, oil pressure and water temp), mounted in a din holder above stereo
Panasonic touch screen head deck
Sony 6.5inch components up front, Sony 12inch sub, both powered by a Sony 4ch amp. Sony 6x9s in the rear
Pair of Recaro seats on recaro rails
Headlight inners painted black (like vzr)
Corner light inners painted black
Nissan emblem front/back and front grill mesh plasti dipped black
Tail lights lightly tinted black

NZPPCC:  What do you love best about your Primera / Pulsar?

Pete : The handling by far, feels like it's on rails when you throw it into a corner.

NZPPCC:  Any future modifications planned that we should know about?

Pete : There's always something going on with the car. Just a case of time and funds. I've got a box of parts waiting to be fitted. Nolathane engine mounts, shifter stabiliser bushes and front sway bar mounts. Sr20ve injectors + retune (road tune then tweak on the dyno). Sr16ve flywheel when the current clutch setup gives out. Hope to get the injectors and retune done shortly.

NZPPCC:  If money was no object what would you do to your car?

Pete : Sr20vet, convert to rear wheel, wide gaurds, serious amount of suspension work to keep the car planted. Would take alot of work but be an awesome car.

NZPPCC:  Do you have any performance figures, 1/4 mile times or lap times?

Pete : Had a base run dyno done at st hitech when the car was stock in 2010, it ran 103kw at hubs with timing advanced. Will post up results when I retune and get back on the dyno.

NZPPCC:

Pete : Enjoy wood fired pizza and cold cider, nice and simple.

NZPPCC:  Favourite television programme?

Pete : I watch a few of the crime scene and action tv shows - NCIS, The Blacklist, Bones etc

NZPPCC:  Are you married, have a partner or are you single and looking?

Pete : Have a lovely partner who puts up with my late nights working on the car

NZPPCC:  What sort of cars have you owned in the past?

Pete : 93 Toyota corona, 97 nissan sentry s, 98 mitsi legnum, 97 nissan primera, 98 nissan pulsar srv vzr and now my daily car is 05 Subaru Legacy 2.0R.

NZPPCC:  What is your favourite road to drive?

Pete : Love the kawakawa coast, great drive and amazing scenery, twilight road right through to Miranda.

NZPPCC:  Do you prefer show, street, circuit or drag?

Pete : Circuit, not all about power :-P

NZPPCC:

Pete : Having only owned a p11 and b14/n15 chassis I'm probably going to be biased in saying b14/n15. Wouldn't mind a p10 at some point.

NZPPCC:

Pete : Came up while researching sr20 mods online. Have gained a wealth of knowledge, help (and parts) from members in the club. Had great times on cruises and monthly meets with like minded people.

NZPPCC:  Any last comments you would like to make?

Pete : Quick thanks to all those who have helped me develop the car over the years with knowledge help parts and general support. Been a great experience with plenty more to come.

Awesome write up! Always liked the n15 lucinos, still think a p10/11 4x4 is the way to go for handling tho. Nice ride cant wait to see what else you do!
