NZPPCC: When and why did you first Purchase you Pulsar(s)?

This car started it all, bought it in 2004 at the grand old age of 16. Convinced my dad to drive me to Auckland to look at it. Had saved all my money since i was 16, drove it had to have it. Bought it as i was looking for a 4wd turbo. Couldn't afford an evo, but this gti-r came up for 8k, they were still going for 16K back then! snatched it up. Lowered on 17" wheels, momo steering wheel and gear knob and that was it. At 16 living in Coromandel you just jumped to coolest car in town with that.. sad i know.

I did not purchase it.. was my partners car for 6 years prior. Was in a very bad state though and needed some serious attention. Blown engine, rusted shell. Ended up re-shelling all the running gear anyway.. then rebuilding it numerous times..  Needless to say the quick tidy up got out of hands and i ended up buying her a new car to continue the project.

NZPPCC:  And what were your original plans for your Pulsars and have they changed?

Plans for this car at the time were all over the place, mild street car, high powered drag car, then 1000hp hill climb car. The only one that eventuated was the mild street car. I sadly sold this car before i ever finished it.

Sad that i sold it.. loved the fact that it taught me everything i know about Gti-r's. It started standard and ended up close to 500hp. Solid car.

NZPPCC:  If money was no object what would you do to your Pulsar?

Geoff:  Have a whole body cast of carbon and placed back on the chassis. Also find one of the three gti-r that were used in the WRC and buy one.


NZPPCC:  Do you have any performance figures, 1/4 mile times or lap times?

12.2@ 197km.. 480ish horse power at the wheels at 25psi boost

NZPPCC:  Are you married, have a partner or are you single and looking?

Geoff:  Have a partner and child


NZPPCC:  What sort of cars have you owned in the past?

Geoff:  Nissan Primera P10, Toyota Aw11 Mr2, Subaru Leone Wagon, Subaru V6 STi with V7 engine, currently driving a corolla!


NZPPCC:  What is your favourite road  to drive?

Geoff:  Whongapoa hill!!


NZPPCC:  Do you prefer show, street, circuit or drag?

Geoff:  Like it all aye, i respect all forms of motorsport as each thing takes time money and dedication.  If i had unlimited funds i would try to build and compete in every form of motorsport possible.


NZPPCC:  P10, P11 or P12?*

Geoff:  P10 other shapes are large & bulky.

*clearly Geoff is a RNN14 fan!

Geoff:  Found out about NZPCC years ago through people like Joe, Kieran, dodgysam, Paul Marks, Darryl.  Enjoy reading the build threads on here seeing what other people are doing with there cars, the general chatter.

As for the funding. I have a good job  and save hard. As you imagine i do not own my own house yet. That is to come this year i hope.. well a garage with a couple bedrooms..

Very nice cars well built id be selling the red one you fund the future projects and keeping the white one.  You know it when your old and grey thats the one your going to want to look at in the garage.

so let me get this straight.... you made nearly 500hp out of the grey gti-r which in all fairness was very stock with just a nice bigger turbo and 25psi boost? plus injectors and maf....

Yeah mate pretty much, z32 maf, 3" downpipe and zorst. A good tune, 800cc injectors. big turbo.. engine lasted about 6 months i think on that set up. Went really well. Ended up wrecking the ringlands.

damn thats good. wouldnt have thought the head would have flowed well enough for that sort of power. especially with stock cams etc
new ambition for me then... hit 500hp

This also goes to show that even a top tuner cant predict horsepower in different applications....
I talked to Andre from STM (owner/creator DOCILE ) about turbo options for 500hp on my sr20det and he pretty much called me a twat and said i would never get there unless i ran ethanol and 30+psi of boost, at which point he started telling me how much better the 4g63t is and how you could get that to 500hp....
I figure my fully forged motor would quite happily push out 500hp with 98RON on about 24psi.... upgrade turbo, manifold and exhaust though 

On a side note, did you not have boost creep with the smaller 38mm wastegate at that higher horsepower?

I had a U12 det bottom end with a stock gtir head and a gt2540 turbo, made 450hp at 17psi.  No fancy gtir bottom end gear, just stock det, which is essentially the same as a sr20de with lower compression.

I have seen a stock gti-r in chili running 51psi of boost making 700bhp with a stock gtir head. He also runs mid 9 second pass's all day.



No boost creep at all. was reliable as. The turbonetics gates at the time had a little bit better efficiency than the tial back then though.

so mine should fairly easily hit 500hp atw with a decent turbo and boost? say 21-22psi? plus a tune darryl

Try at the flywheel mate.. and i was also running a par gearset in the grey car which i failed to mention above.. Don't know how well a standard gti-r box would hold out on that power.. not well i would imagine.
