2001 P12 primera OBD2 compliant?
« on: 09 April, 2018, 09:00:35 AM »
I have purchased 2 OBD2 scanners (T Me) to try and diagnose faults when the EML comes on. They cost about the same as it costs to get the auto electrician to reset the light. However, both scanners come up with the 'fail to link' code. Not only on the P12, but also my 2005 Mitsi ute.
Should they work on the P12? I figured they should.
Thanks
Alan

yes they should how ever not always the case cheap ones tend to not scan nissans don't know why, and thing is with scanners is they need updates to keep current.

where are located?

Ex:    fastest auto 16.02

NOW: manual DE 14.8 knock maps
          manual VE 15.011

I am near hastings.
Thanks

how often would you be using it? cause if you wanna do it regular and multiple vehicles your gonna spend a fair bit sorta around 1000 but a compatible one for nissan should be around 200 and may do other makes but probably won't.

Thanks for that. I don't really want to spend $1000. But OK with $200. But then you are saying that may not do other vehicles? Are they so specific?
An OBD2 scanner should do OBD2 vehicles, right? So how do you know what you are buying? What should I be looking for?
Thanks

I had exactly the same problem with my p12. Bought a better scanner ($150 odd) but still didn't work. I gave up in the end. Had fixed the faulty O2 sensor and to clear the fault left the battery disconnected for a couple of days. Fault code was gone from then on.

Well that is really weird. You would think if they advertise an OBD2 scanner, then it would scan OBD2 systems. Looks like a bit of a rip off. So maybe I should save my $200 also. The people I bought the first scanner from said they had never had a problem with them. yeah, right.
Disconnect battery for couple of days - thanks. The EML light seems to have gone out all on its own this time. I had cranked it over with spark plugs out - doing compression test. That threw up a code fault. Thinking after the fact - probably detected a fault in the HT circuit.
Regards
Alan

yeah its the risk of buying them, even expensive scanners can sometimes not scan all cars. we have 4 different scanners at work one is a dedicated for euro cars only but we need these to cover all bases, probably just as easy to go to the auto sparky and pay for a quick scan if its urgent. if you were closer i would scan it for you.
